Research in my lab focuses on how ecological factors and natural selection affect the genetic diversity and biogeography of human and non-human malaria and a variety of other parasites. By integrating the fields of epidemiology, ecology, and evolution to understand the history, genetic diversity, and distributions of parasites, we hope to learn how drug resistance emerges and how parasites adapt to their hosts. This interdisciplinary perspective will improve our understanding of disease variation and susceptibility and advance the effectiveness of disease intervention strategies, as well as the ways that humans control infectious diseases.
