Science Education Research Center
Many iGEM laboratories and staff are housed in a brand new, state-of-the-art building on Temple University's Main Campus, the Science Education and Research Center (SERC) building. iGEM faculty, staff, and students occupy over 8000 sq. ft. space on the 5th and 6th floors of SERC. Overall, SERC provides 250,000 sq. ft. of space to education and interdisciplinary research, with extensive expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, structural biology, and material science present on site. Both the SERC and iGEM spaces are designed with largely open floor plans to foster interdisciplinary interactions and cooperation.
iGEM fosters a campus-wide network that brings together multiple research and tenure-track faculty members, staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and students with diverse specialties, including molecular evolution, population genetics, phylogenetics, developmental biology, evolutionary medicine, machine learning, mathematics, and computer science. Each faculty member has over 200 sq. ft. of office space, with scientific staff and administrative staff located on floors 5 and 6 of SERC building. Each floor has multiple small and large conference rooms.
