We investigate the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases. We examine how ecological factors and natural selection affect the genetic diversity of human and non-human malarias. This is paired with their efforts to understand the evolutionary history and biogeography of a variety of parasites.

By understanding the history, genetic diversity and distributions of parasites, we hope to learn how drug resistance emerges and how parasites adapt to their hosts. Our research approach integrates the fields of epidemiology, ecology, and evolution. This integrated perspective will improve understanding of disease variation and susceptibility, and advance the effectiveness of disease intervention strategies, as well as the ways that humans control infectious diseases.
