Q: Will the GM program help me get into medical school?
A: The GM program equips students with a curriculum and experiences that go beyond what a standard biology degree offers. This encompasses understanding genetic diseases, disease histories, medical disciplines, evolution, data science, genomics, and other medically-related subjects. As a result, students pursuing the GM degree are better prepared to excel in the emerging biomedical disciplines of the next generation.
-
Q: Which skill sets are best suited for this program?
A: It is well-suited for everyone interested in biology and medicine.
-
Q: How many credits can I take?
A: Normally 15-18 credits per semester is expected. If students decide to do research, they should consider their course load as research credits require at least three hours per credit. Following the academic plan is beneficial as it frees up the 4th year for individual elective choices here.
-
Q: Can I transfer credits in the GM program?
A: Yes. You can come from a two-year college or with another degree. There is no limit to the number of credits Temple can accept, but you must complete at least 45 of your last 60 credits here to earn a Temple degree. It is recommended the student speak with a CST advisor and discuss your credit transfer before applying.

Q: What other career paths can the GM degree lead to?
A: The GM degree can be extremely valuable to students in any biomedical field, that includes Physician’s assistants, genetic counseling, and any area of biomedical research. Other fields include forensic, anthropology, education, and pharmaceuticals or pharmacy school, ecology of infectious diseases, and plant genomics.
